If you wish to spend a few years in one location in Australia and are unsure of relocating permanently, you may wish to consider applying for a Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) 482 visa. Approved Australian employers can sponsor suitably registered professionals to full-time positions (38 hours a week) for a period of up to four years. You can include your spouse and any dependent children (below 23 years of age) on this visa, if applicable, and they will have full work and study rights.
To be eligible for this visa, you must:
If you wish to settle in Australia, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residency up until you turn 45 years of age. However, exemptions from the age criterion can be accessed under select visa pathways.
To be eligible to apply for a permanent residency visa in the first instance, you are required to have a positive skills assessment. For medical practitioners, this means you must hold Unconditional or General medical registration or Conditional Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia, allowing you to practice only in your speciality with no further training or supervision.
Visa requirements will vary according to the visa subclass for which you apply, and your specific circumstances. All applicants included in your application must also meet the health and character requirements for a permanent visa. Please contact us to discuss your options.
If you wish to relocate to New Zealand on a permanent basis, the primary candidate must be aged under 56 yrs. As with all visas you must also meet health and character requirements.
There are several pathways to residence for skilled migrants. In July 2022, the New Zealand government made extensive changes to its visa system in order to attract qualified professionals to the country. The government created a list of occupations in high demand due to labour shortages, known as the Green List, and gave these occupations a fast-track to residence. The List is reviewed every three years with occupations added and removed from the List. The three pathways available are known as Skilled Migrant Category Residence, Green List Tier 1 Straight to Residence or Green List Tier 2 Work to Residence. Our registered and experienced migration advisers can offer advice specific related to your circumstances and desired goals.
There is no age limit for temporary Accredited Employer Work Visas. These visas are issued for 36 months at a time and there is no need to go offshore to renew.
All New Zealand employers wishing to hire from overseas are required to become accredited by Immigration New Zealand. The accreditation is designed to ensure that those hiring from overseas are doing so to fill genuine shortages and to prevent the exploitation of workers.
The temporary work visas available to overseas qualified professionals are Working Holiday Visas (dependent on your country of nationality) and Accredited Employer Work Visas. Dependent upon your occupation you may also qualify for the Green List Tier 1 Straight to Residence pathway, which enables you and your family to arrive onshore in New Zealand as residents. You are then able to access all the benefits of residence including the national pension scheme (KiwiSaver) and the ability to purchase property.
